Overall Strategy and Certified Copies CA Final-New AIR 43 (July 2021) (1/2)

Part 1 Study Leave-:

1. Duration of Study Leave

- According to me 4.5 to 5 months study leave is required for CA Final preparation.

- Try to finish your classes before you start your study leave or within 15-20 days of starting your study leave

- Ensure that you have at least 4 complete months for your self-study.

2. Planning in Study Leave

- You need not prepare a detailed day-to-day plan on how you want to utilize your study leave.

- You must have a broad plan regarding

o           number of revisions you want to do,

o           number of days you want allocate to each subject

o           the sequence in which you will revise the subjects.

3. No of Revisions and No. of Hours

Ideally 2 for elective and 4 for remaining subjects

- Number of hours do not matter. However effective study should be around 8-10 hours everyday

4. Ideal Allocation of days in Study Leave (for Self-Study)

Revision

No. of days

Total

First Revision

Elective- 3 days and Remaining- 7 days

52 days

Second Revision

All subjects except elective- 4 days each

28 days

Third Revision

All subjects except elective- 3 days each

21 days

Fourth Revision

All subjects- 2 days each replicating CA Final Exam

16 days

Total days

117 days

You might have to give more time to Audit and accordingly you could adjust in IDT and SFM.

Elective is an open book exam, so you should study it parallelly and no need to devote time to it separately in subsequent revisions.

5. MTP's and RTP's

You must solve the two series of MTP which ICAI conducts for the relevant attempt in writing.

RTP for the relevant attempt must also be solved in writing.

If time permits, solve previous attempt MTP’s in writing

6. Writing Practice

SFM, FR, SCMPE-: Substantial (approx. 80%) sums must be solved in writing and make a summary of mistakes/ special points.

DT and IDT-: You must solve all DT and IDT questions in writing in your first revision and make a summary of mistakes/ special points. In subsequent revision you must focus on learning provisions, reading the summary and solving papers.

Others-: Solving MTP and RTP in writing should be sufficient

7.Importance of Hand-written notes

I strongly believe in self hand-written notes as learning from them is not only easier but also faster and it makes revising entire syllabus on the last day possible.

I would strongly recommend to make running notes when you attend your classes or during the first revision.

Part 2-Last Day Revision-:

You need to prepare a detailed plan on how you want to utilized the last 1.5 day before exam.

It has to be hour to hour.

Make a plan in such a manner that you are able to revise the entire syllabus on the last day.

Part 3-: Examination

1. During Reading Time

I would advise not to read the compulsory question during reading time.

Rather focus on

o           reading remaining questions

o           choosing the best 4 questions you want to attempt

o           deciding the sequence in which you will attempt

2. Elective

In case of elective would advise to solve all the MCQ’s first and then solve the remaining paper.

This might be very useful for GFRS as for answering MCQ’s you do not need to read entire case study as each MCQ has one dedicated paragraph.

3. Other Papers with MCQ's (Audit, Law, DT, IDT)

I used to solve three questions, then MCQ’s and then remaining 2 questions.

In DT (July 2021-New), on-going through the MCQ’s I found them very difficult so I kept MCQ booklet aside, solved the remaining 2 questions and attempted MCQ’s at the end.

If you feel MCQ’s are difficult then put it aside and solve the remaining paper. There is no point spending lot of time behind MCQ’s as you would anyway use guess work at the end.

4. Difficult Paper

SCMPE (July 2021-New) was a very tricky paper with all new questions. There were times when I was getting stuck in the middle of the question not knowing what to do next.

In such situations, I would advise to take God's name and leave a few pages. It will ensure that you stay calm and attempt the remaining paper positively not thinking about the previous questions which you have left mid-way.

If time permits, you can revisit them at the end.

  4. I (had) found myself being overtaken by a wheeled stretcher, a so called gurney, fronted and backed, respectively, by an ominously unworried (albeit hurried) pair of men in so-called scrubs, and laden with a figure in a completely opaque so-called body bag which barely filled out half the stretcher’s length–and which, even more tellingly, was surmounted or, rather, stridden, at its fore or head end by a pair of grotesquely large-lensed spectacles.
